I’m Quite Sure on This One

I was chatting with my sister this evening. I was sitting in the parking lot of the grocery store and she was telling me about seeing one of our favorite humorists last night. After several minutes, I said I had to go; I needed to pick up some things for M’s birthday cake.

“Wait a minute,” she said, “When is his birthday?”

“Tomorrow,” I replied.

“What is the date tomorrow?” she asked.

“The 26th,” I said.

She was silent for a moment, then said, “Isn’t his birthday on the 29th?”

“No,” I said, “It’s the 26th.”

“Are you sure?” she asked.

“Yes,” I said.

She was silent for another moment. “Was it ever on the 29th?”

I didn’t know what to say. Finally I just said, “I’ve really got to go,” and we hung up.

I laughed out loud when I read this!

Was she... serious?

Yes, she was serious.

As we often say in our house after her outragous comments (either funny or infuriating) - it's her world; we're just living in it.

But are you *really* sure?

J said...

Unfortunately, yes.

I guess you could say she didn't think about the words she was using, but the sentiment that she couldn't possibly be wrong, I must be...that was no mistake.

You'd have to know my sister, I guess. She takes self-absorbed to a new level. She's the primary reason we'll never live west of the Mississippi.

I've decided to start telling sister stories. Some of them are just too bizarre not to tell.

:-)
Actually, I was asking if you were really sure when M was born.
You couldn't hear the inflection in my tone, lol....

YES That pickoff was Perfection! John and Q have watched it over and over on the internet because Q thinks it is so cool.

Ha! Yeah, it is tough to hear that inflection on email.

:-D

You could make it a recurring series, like a weekly thing. I get such a kick out of the sister stories.

Also, let me be the first to congratulate you on your team winning.

Sigh... if only the Mets hadn't gone down in flames.
