Thank you, America.

Ruthie - I love that image of you and your son.

This feeling of excitement and optimism? This is what it's supposed to feel like. Hold on to this feeling and the memory of this feeling. It's a good one.

I'd forgotten what it felt like to vote for someone and have them WIN!

It's like a veil has been lifted. Did you see the shots of people celebrating in Times Square, at the White House, at all kinds of locations overseas? Damn. I can't imagine the sense of responsibility President-elect Obama must feel. The whole world has huge expectations for him. It's a good thing he's as awesome as he is.

I would not be at all surprised if the thought, "Oh, shit, what have I done?" passed through his mind once or twice. It's an awesome responsibility.

I read one report that when Obama himself received word that he would win, his response and the response of those around him was subdued. That just tells me that there is true understanding and respect there - and it's exactly what we need right now.

Yes. He is a very smart and capable man, and I feel honored that he is devoting his life to serving us.

I imagine the "Oh shit" thought passed through Michelle's mind as well. Can you IMAGINE raising your children under a public spotlight? It seems like their relationship is very strong. Good thing - they'll need each other a LOT in the next 8 years.
