our cafeteria at work has a huge sign that says: "Now excepting credit cards!" They've always excepted credit cards from the types of payment before, so I don't see why they're making such a big deal out of it now.

I almost always find typos in first drafts of AP wire stories.

Clearly whoever writes the headlines needs to come to work more alert.

That's one annoying thing that very few people know--journalists who write the stories don't ever write headlines. Someone else comes along, briefly read the story, and slaps a headline on it--sometimes a very silly or inaccurate one.

I actually did know that, really, and have had some experience with it. Headline writers are charged with writing headlines that will grab the attention of search engines - they are all about bringing the reader in from Google or wherever. Whether or not it's relevant to the article - or even grammatically correct - is something else entirely. Ahem.

But that Island vs. Islam thing. Made me laugh out loud. EBA caught a great, slightly subtle reference to a raunchy Margaret Cho routine on our local paper's web site last week.
